General Information

The MORE Division of NIGMS will conduct a Technical Assistance Workshop for Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program Directors, potential Program Directors, and others who have an interest in and intend to submit a new, revised or renewal application for the Bridges to the Baccalaureate program. A new Funding Opportunity Announcement for the Bridges to the Baccalaureate program was released in the Fall of 2007 (http://grants1.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-07-411.html); and thus, the workshop's purpose is to inform applicants of changes and to offer guidance about the new program prior to the next submission dates of September 18, 2009 and January 20, 2010.

The workshop is scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2009 from 8:30 am-4:30 pm in the Natcher Building (Bldg. 45), Conference Room E1/E2 on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD. Attendees are strongly encouraged to review the new Bridges to the Baccalaureate Funding Opportunity before attending the Technical Assistance Workshop and to bring in for discussion an outline of the proposed Bridges to the Baccalaureate program and a set of specific aims based on the new announcement. In order to participate in the workshop, teams of at least two individuals from each invited institution are required. These teams should consist of the prospective Program Director and an institutional official at the level of Dean or higher from the applicant institution. In addition, the team could include one to three potential program coordinators from the partner institutions, if the applicant institution believes that their participation in the workshop is critical to the success of the program.

UPDATE:  Due to the small number of registered participants the Bridges to the Doctorate Technical Assistance Workshop scheduled for April 27, 2009 has been cancelled. If there is interest in the community regarding the Bridges to the Doctorate Program, this information may be included in the Bridges to the Baccalaureate Technical Assistance Workshop or it may become a combined workshop depending on the number of interested party. In order to assist the MORE Division in preparing for this workshop, it is requested that upon registering, prospective participants should indicate whether they are planning to submit an application for the Baccalaureate, Doctorate, or both programs using the COMMENTS box.  Registration for the June 19, 2009 workshop is now open and can be accessed at http://meetings.nigms.nih.gov/?ID=6663 .  When registering, please indicate in the COMMENTS box whether you are planning to submit an application to either one or both programs.
